How My Journey into Longevity Medicine Began
It all began when I completed my third residency in obstetrics and gynecology in the U.S. in 2008. Finally stepping into the role of an attending physician in New York, I was thrilled. I had a beautiful office, a supportive staff, and a growing patient base. Being kind, compassionate, and non-judgmental set me apart.
I cared for women across the spectrum—pregnancy, infections, irregular periods, and pain. I followed the textbook: ultrasounds, labs, and conventional treatments. But right as I’d be wrapping up an appointment, I’d hear, “Just one more thing… I don’t feel like doing ‘it’ with my husband. I have no desire.” It wasn’t just once. It became a pattern. And I had no good answer. Like many others, I’d half-heartedly suggest a glass of wine.
But that didn’t sit well with me.
I needed to understand more, so I pursued a medical sex therapy certification. Yet the questions didn’t stop at libido. Patients were struggling with chronic infections, weight gain, breast and uterine cancers, depression, hair loss, and pain. The standard GYN diagnoses—PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids—weren’t enough. Many patients got temporarily better, only to relapse.
I began questioning everything. Why didn’t treatments stick? Why weren’t we giving probiotics here like we did in India? Why were we prescribing antidepressants for PMS or birth control for PCOS, only to see more weight gain, hair loss, and low libido?
I started dabbling in “integrative” medicine—suggesting probiotics, chasteberry, glucosamine—and noticed real improvement. That curiosity turned into a deeper dive into what we now call functional and longevity medicine. I found like-minded doctors at conferences like A4M and cutting-edge research focused on root-cause healing rather than symptom suppression.
And I’ve never looked back.
The Shift to Foundational Medicine
After 18 years, I still get excited by what I continue to learn. When we explore illness at the cellular level, address biochemistry, and focus on root causes, patients get better—not just temporarily, but truly.
This is medicine as it should have always been practiced. I’m practicing foundational care, which sadly has been overshadowed by pharmaceutical quick fixes.
I’m not against Western medicine. I’m a double-board-certified OBGYN and enjoy performing surgeries when truly necessary. But you can’t just cut out a fibroid or burn off endometriosis and expect the problem to be gone. These conditions are symptoms of deeper issues, such as inflammation, hormone imbalance, or disruptions in the gut-brain-vagina axis.
Why Patients Keep Falling Through the Cracks
I’ve met thousands of patients who, like one woman recently, have seen every specialist—gastroenterologist, neurologist, psychiatrist—only to be dismissed or patched up with pills. She came to me for abnormal periods, but we uncovered bowel issues, depression, hair loss, fatigue, brain fog, bladder issues, and more. No one had ever connected the dots. I did. I could help. But it wasn’t going to be quick—or cheap.
Functional medicine is not a pill-for-an-ill model. It requires teamwork: the provider, nutritionist, mental health specialist, chiropractor, and YOU—the patient. It requires testing that insurance rarely covers. And yes, it requires commitment.
But it works. And it transforms lives.
The Truth About Healing
Healing is not about popping a pill and “getting on with life.” It’s about recognizing the damage accumulated over years—emotionally, physically, and environmentally—and giving your body the time, nutrients, and support it needs to heal.
The conventional system, limited by insurance guidelines, continues to offer short-term relief. But what happens when symptoms resurface? When you’re offered yet another antidepressant? When your gut says something isn’t right… and you still don’t feel well?
That’s where Medicine 3.0 steps in—targeted, personalized, and deeply insightful. We are now in an era of precision testing, bio-individualized therapies, and longevity-focused healing.
