Moderated by Jennifer Convy, CEO of Women in Luxury Design, the panel brought together three dynamic voices in contemporary creativity.

Natalia Blanco, General Manager and exclusive representative for PlusObject, shared how PlusObject blends high‑tech materials such as titanium‑coated glass with artisanal craftsmanship to create sculptural wall panels, mirrors, lamps and furniture that transcend conventional décor. The company describes itself as merging innovation and fine decorative glass to “transform and enrich contemporary interiors.”

Graydon Feinstein, Director of Sales & Marketing for 11 Ravens (headquartered in Los Angeles), discussed how the brand’s handcrafted game tables and luxury furnishings merge interactive entertainment with refined design. Each piece is bespoke, made in L.A., and positions the game‑room‑table as an object of functional art.

Thomas Piscitello, founder of Mogul, offered a perspective informed by luxury interiors, lifestyle design and bespoke architecture. Mogul describes its collection as curating furnishings and accessories of “unparalleled sophistication,” where every piece tells a narrative of craftsmanship, material richness and refined living.

The panel’s discussion focused on the convergence of light, form and function, how objects, environments and design choices influence how we live, entertain and experience spaces. Attendees heard about the importance of storytelling in design, the role of material innovation, and the shift toward objects that behave both as art and utility.

Especially for her fellow residents Ivy Hoffbauer and Arthur Beech. Doris is only getting started when she announces on games day:

“So what’s on the agenda? Bridge night? Canasta night? Pin the catheter on Murray night?”

About Theatre 40

Beginning in 1964 a group of actors gathered at the home of Susan French to read the works of William Shakespeare. The address was 40 Haldeman Road in Santa Monica Canyon. Thus the name, Theatre 40.

By 1965, the group led by Susan and John Houlton, vice-consul of the British Consulate General, decided to become more ambitious and produce the plays they had been reading. Theatre 40’s first production was The Winter’s Tale. In 1966, we produced Twelfth Night and The Merchant of Venice in MacArthur Park. This was Los Angeles’ first Shakespeare in the park. Soon after this achievement, we began our association with the Beverly Hills Unified School District by producing our plays at the Horace Mann School auditorium. In 1969, we strengthened our relationship with the school district by creating a theatre appreciation course for their adult education program. When Actors’ Equity Association started waiver theatre, we lost our theatre, as it was much too large for the waiver audience size, and for almost a year we were homeless. At this point, Beverly Hills High School offered a large storeroom to us if we could turn it into a theatre. This was in 1974. Click here for more on Theatre 40.

The 132^nd Canton Fair will open virtually on October 15. The National Pavilion sets up 50 exhibition sections according to 16 product categories, and the International Pavilion showcases 6 themes distributed in these 50 sections. Compared with previous sessions, this session features larger exhibition scale, longer service time and more complete online functions, presenting to buyers around the world an all-weather platform for trade matchmaking.

Larger exhibition scale. The 132^nd Canton Fair has expanded the scope of exhibitors to provide more diversified choices for global buyers, and attracted 10,000 new exhibitors to the original 25,000 companies. Quality exhibiting companies of various industries represent the best of China’s manufacturing online, which offers more choices for buyers. In the meantime, the 132^nd Canton Fair will continue to set up Cross-border E-commerce Zone and create a synergy with these e-commerce platforms; 132 cross-border e-commerce pilot zones and 5 cross-border e-commerce platforms will join Canton Fair’s activities at the same time.

Longer service time. Starting from the 132^nd Canton Fair, its website will provide services for half a year. In order to reach Greystone Mansion, which sits atop a mountain overlooking breathtaking city views, guests took shuttles provided by Starline Tours of Hollywood. Upon their arrival, they were greeted with two luxurious Aston Martin vehicles, courtesy of Aston Martin Beverly Hills, as well as an abundance of photo opportunities. Prior to the address, the Chamber hosted an elegant reception full of mingling, entertainment, and networking. Guests indulged in impeccable hor d’oeuvres and cocktails, courtesy of Mírame Beverly Hills, buzzbox premium cocktails, AsomBroso Tequila, Gothic Gin, Morandell Imports, and Icelandic Glacial. A live saxophonist from Artists Creating Entertainment set the mood for the evening, as he added a jazzy flare to current hits and classics.

The Beverly Hills Hotel opened on May12, 1912, prior to the founding of Beverly Hills itself, and the city grew up around the glamorous hotel. To this day, the iconic property remains at the heart of the star-studded Beverly Hills community, and it is devoting all of 2022 to the 110th Anniversary celebration of its heritage not only as the first official landmark in Beverly Hills and second home to Hollywood royalty, but also as a standard-bearer in hospitality for future generations.

In celebration of its anniversary, the hotel is featuring the following special activities and offerings throughout the year for guests and locals alike.

Summer Movie Series

This summer, the hotel is introducing a movie series at the iconic pool featuring films shot at The Beverly Hills Hotel throughout its history. Films will include Troop Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills Cop, and more. The movie screen will be set up poolside and guests will enjoy beautiful views overlooking the palm tree skyline while sipping on hand-crafted cocktails and tasting upscale cuisine. Bert Stern Exhibition featuring longtime guest Elizabeth Taylor

The Beverly Hills Hotel served as a backdrop to Elizabeth Taylor’s life in California dating back to her childhood. Her father Francis, who inspired her love of art, had a gallery in the hotel’s promenade and she went on to be a frequent guest throughout her life. Affectionately known as the “Pink Palace,” The Beverly Hills Hotel’s famed bungalows was where Elizabeth Taylor stayed following six of her eight weddings. She regularly dined at the hotel’s iconic Polo Lounge where her ‘splurge’ day favorite of “fried chicken with mashed potato and lots of gravy” is still served, and celebrated iconic moments of her life such as her Oscar win for Butterfield 8 at the hotel. After her passing in 2011, Elizabeth Taylor’s family hosted a private memorial service in the star’s favorite Bungalow 5, which has been recently renamed “Elizabeth Taylor’s Bungalow 5.”

Guests and locals will have a chance to discover a variety of images featuring Elizabeth Taylor photographed by Bert Stern in a rare exhibition taking place in the lobby at The Beverly Hills Hotel August 1 – September 30. The hotel’s commission from the exhibition will go to the Elizabeth Taylor Foundation.

$1912 McCarthy Salad

The Beverly Hills Hotel’s most celebrated dish is the McCarthy Salad, named in honor of frequent guest and polo player Neil McCarthy who was the captain of a local polo team in the 1940’s. One day in the Polo Lounge, he requested a very specific list of ingredients for a salad and his name-sake salad was born. The recipe has remained untouched for decades and has been a signature dish ever since. Nearly 600 McCarthy salads are sold in the hotel’s restaurants and through in-room dining each week.

Guests dining in the Polo Lounge from August through December will have an opportunity to upgrade the traditional McCarthy Salad for a mere $1912, the price of course honors the year the hotel opened. Servers will arrive to the table with white gloves and the salad will be garnished with gold leaf flakes, lobster, caviar and paired with a bottle of Dom Pérignon. The salad will be served in a commemorative bowl made by Bernardaud, the masters of French porcelain since 1863, that guests will then get to take home with them. The design is inspired by the hotel’s Martinique print that has adorned its walls since 1949. A portion of the proceeds will go to the LA Conservancy, in honor of the hotels’ legendary architect Paul Revere Williams. For reservations click here

Love Letters

To honor the its legacy and illustrate the strong affection that guests around the world have for the Pink Palace, the hotel is asking guests to pen their ‘love letter’ to The Beverly Hills Hotel on a specially designed letterhead. The letters will be on display throughout the hotel and then will be archived to become part of the hotel’s rich history. For those wanting to participate in the initiative, they can access the e-letterhead here.

The Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce produced Beverly Hills’ largest networking event of the year, the Summer Garden Party presented by Torrey Pines Bank and Greater LA Realtors on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. With over 500 members and distinguished guests in attendance, this signature event served as the Chamber’s annual Board of Directors installation and membership appreciation celebration. Guests relished in the evening’s festivities, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Beverly Cañon Gardens.

The evening commenced with a warm welcome from Todd Johnson, President & CEO of the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce, who introduced the event’s presenting sponsors and thanked the city officials, esteemed guests, and Chamber Ambassadors in attendance. To kick-off this celebration of the Chamber’s monumental year, Johnson presented the Randy Fuhrman Ambassador of the Year Award to this year’s winner, the remarkable Jeff Forsythe, SVP CRE Loan Officer at Torrey Pines Bank, recognized for his notable efforts and involvement as a Chamber Ambassador for over seven years.

Following this award, the guests heard from the outgoing Chair of the Board, Giorgio Cyphaeus Sease, who shared his bittersweet final remarks as he reflected on the board’s accomplishments throughout the 2021-2022 term: 

“I would like to thank the Chamber Executive Committee and Board of Directors for their countless, integral contributions over the past year. Their leadership has been a tremendous asset to the Chamber and we truly could not have accomplished our goals without their efforts.”

Beverly Hills’ Vice Mayor, Julian Gold, MD was then welcomed to the stage to present the Certificate of Recognition to Giorgio, acknowledging his immense contributions to the Chamber as well as the Beverly Hills community. As Sease’s term came to a close, it was time to induct the 101st Chair of the Board of Directors, Kathleen Chapman. Currently serving as the Senior Director of Commercial Banking for Torrey Pines Bank, Chapman has been an active Chamber member since 2012 and has 30 years of professional experience in the banking industry. Greeted with resounding applause, Kathleen discussed her hopes and aspirations as Board Chair during the upcoming year:

“Throughout my career in finance and banking I have had the fortunate opportunity to work with a diverse array of businesses, in a multitude of industries and an assortment of sizes. And what I am always most fascinated by are the people behind the business – the entrepreneurs with the vision and the guts to go for it, the managers and leaders with the foresight to build on that vision, and the team that executes on it all. Over the years, as I’ve gotten to know many of the people behind the businesses of Beverly Hills, I’ve continued to be captivated by the entrepreneurial spirit, the fortitude, and the caliber of the individuals I’ve encountered. Our Beverly Hills business community is renowned throughout the world – and beyond the brands and the luxury, I know it is the people that make this possible. It takes every business of every size and type and every person behind each one to create the success that this community shares.”

Though the award ceremony and installation was winding down, the night was far from over. 

The reception, consisting of decadent tastings from some of Beverly Hills’ finest eateries as well as elegant ambiance provided by Kirschner Creative Artist’s Harpwoman, Ellie Choate, offered guests a way to celebrate and mingle in true Beverly Hills fashion. There were six different restaurants present, including Tommy’s Beverly Hills and Spago Beverly Hills, serving flavorful bites from grilled octopus to sweet white corn salad.
