GLAUDI is also launching the first collection of sustainable earrings. Her accessory collection is handmade in El Salvador from excess GLAUDI dress fabric to give them a second life. Each design is also ethically made, empowering women’s communities, from vulnerable areas of El Salvador. Through her collection, GLAUDI is providing job opportunities for women, allowing them to improve their quality of life for them, as well as for their children!

Johana Gladis Hernandez is the owner/designer of GLAUDI by Johana Hernandez, located in Downey, California and in Beverly Hills. Born in Los Angeles to El Salvadorian parents who escaped the war, Ms. Hernandez accompanied her parents to see their work as a young girl, in the factories producing garments for global brands. She used the experience to learn about garment construction and manufacturing processes which ignited her passion for designing clothes at a very young age.

GLAUDI Beverly Hills drive-by Fashion Show was the first in history to be produced in the heart of Beverly Hills. It was to celebrate 10 years of GLAUDI by Johana Hernandez and to inspire everyone to celebrate the most special moments in your life from your wedding day to your graduation day, or red carpet moment all dressed in GLAUDI Bridal, Evening gowns and Mens.

What was the inspiration behind the show?

My inspiration was my father Jose Reynaldo Hernandez he was passed away July 2020 and knowing so many people lost a family member in 2020 I wanted to inspire everyone to celebrate again as a family! Even in hard times we can celebrate as to we never know when our last day will be and I’m here as a designer to dress you in GLAUDI for all special occasions.

The drive by fashion show was a perfect way to be safe due to Covid-19 and also showcase my collection in the heart of Beverly Hills. We made history by being the first fashion show to ever host a drive-by experience in Beverly Hills. Driving through rodeo drive on to our GLAUDI store on Brighton was an unforgettable experience for many!

What inspired the line?

2020 was a hard year for many. All special occasions where postponed and this year we finally where able to celebrate again. 2021 has been a revival to appreciate family and love, to be excited to dress up again after a year of being at  home. This is why my evening gown collection is so bright with bold colors from yellow to royal blue, red and my designs are couture one of a kind to make a statement that you’re ready to celebrate again filled with joy and excitement!

For my men’s and bridal collection I was inspired by love and being able to choose your dream dress from the ball gowns to the 2 in 1 gowns with a large bridal train instead of settling for subtle designs you can now have the big dream wedding. We can also do any suit for your special occasions from Jacquard tuxedos in elegant fabrics to the perfect suit to show your great style. My inspiration was that we can now celebrate again and feel and look our best in GLAUDI.

As we look ahead to the holidays, we realize this will be a holiday season like no other, coming off a year like no other. Our family gatherings and events will be smaller as we stay closer to home.

This year has been challenging for all of us and my small Carroll Custom shop is no exception. There hasn’t been much of a demand for custom suits and jackets (no surprise there) so my inventory has shifted to a more casual feel. Suede & leather jackets, cotton sweat suits, cashmere knitwear, some wonderful flannel sport shirts – I’ve been able to find some great ideas for the holidays which will surely delight the classic Carroll customer.

I’m still working with a lot of the fine Italian and Scottish manufacturers who we have been working with for many years. Quality is still of the utmost importance and I think you will be pleased when you visit our shop in The Courtyard on Canon Drive.

IWC Schaffhausen adds attractive new models to the Portugieser family. A compact automatic style in the iconic Portugieser design, a new model with the legendary perpetual calendar, a nautical sports chronograph with an elegantly proportioned case, and the first watch fitted with a tide indication. These are the highlights of the new collection, all of which are equipped with IWC-manufactured calibres and further enhance the unique appeal of the Portugieser family.

Only a few designs are absolutely timeless. With the Portugieser, IWC created an icon in the late 1930s. The basis for the Reference 325, which was delivered to two business men from Portugal – hence its name – was a hunter pocket watch calibre. Inspiration for the clean, open, highly functional dial came from the deck watches IWC was producing for the British Royal Navy at the time. From the outset, the Portugieser had the typical stylistic features of a pocket watch, coupled with the high precision and easy readability of a nautical instrument.

Complete Collection with in-house Calibres

All the watches in the new collection are equipped with in-house calibres. Among others, they feature automatic movements from the 52000 and 82000 calibre families, which have Pellaton winding with ceramic components. In the chronographs, movements from the 89000 and 69000 calibre families ensure precise measurement of stop times. The Portugieser Chronograph (Ref. 3716), one of IWC’s most popular models, is newly equipped in the standard version with the IWC in-house 69355 calibre and a see-through sapphire-glass back. It is also now possible to register any watch within the standard two-year warranty period for the My IWC program, which extends the international guarantee to eight years.

New Models with Reduced Diameters

The Portugieser Automatic 40 (Ref. 3583) marks the return to the collection of the iconic design, with the small seconds at 6 o’clock, in a compact case with a 40-millimetre diameter. The new automatic model takes its power from the IWC-manufactured 82200 calibre with Pellaton winding. For the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 42 (Ref. 3442), the perpetual calendar has been integrated for the first time with an in-house movement from the 82000-calibre family. The watch with the IWC-manufactured 82650 calibre has a 42-millimetre diameter and displays the calendar information clearly on three subdials.

A Nautical Sports Watch at Home, on Deck or Dry Land

As a nautical sports watch, the Portugieser Yacht Club combines timeless style with ruggedness and high water-resistance. The new models, with a 44-millimetre diameter, have a filigree bezel and flat casing ring that lend a particular elegance to the case proportions. The Portugieser Yacht Club Moon & Tide (Ref. 344001) is the first watch from IWC to feature the newly developed tide indication, which indicates the arrival of the next high and low tide. The Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph (Ref. 3907) comes with either a stainless steel or 18-carat 5N gold and stainless steel bracelet.

Boutique Editions and Models with Complications

Selected models will also be available with overarching design cues in the maritime-inspired colours blue and gold and are available exclusively in IWC boutiques and online on IWC.com. They feature blue dials, blue alligator leather straps and cases in 18-carat 5N gold or 18-carat Armor Gold®. Thanks to its improved microstructure, this innovative new material has considerably higher hardness values than traditional 5N gold alloys. Two models in the new collection underscore IWC’s expertise in Haute Horlogerie: The Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph (Ref. 3940) combines a tourbillon with a retrograde date display and chronograph, while the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon (Ref. 5045) brings a tourbillon and perpetual calendar together on the dial.

With consumers’ increasing focus on sustainability, social sharing, and experiences rather than things, the rental model is the hero fashion has been waiting for. The success of this model stems from its impressive ability to solve the numerous problems facing today’s major retailers and their consumers. With early trailblazers, like Rent The Runway, the shift seen in the retail and eCommerce landscape is apparent and is beckoning other major players to join the rental movement.

Several key launches by large brands in the rental space this year have served as a call-to-action for anyone in the apparel industry.

URBN, inc. (the company that owns Free People, Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Terrain..) launched their whimsical, fun, and inexpensive rental business called Nuuly this summer, carrying brands like For Love and Lemons, Lisa Says Gah!, and Loveshack Fancy to name a few. Even fast-fashion brands, like Express, are finding space in the rental model. Other major players include American Eagle with AE Style Drop, Rebecca Taylor with Rebecca Taylor Rrntd, and Bloomingdales with My List at Bloomingdales.

The US apparel rental market is projected to reach 2.2 billion by 2022. CaaStles CEO, Christine Hunsicker, says that retailers offering rental subscriptions can generate operating margins of 25 percent, which fairs well in comparison to the profitability of the mid-market fashion sector. Not only is there an opportunity to maintain a healthy margin, but there’s a subscription model in place that keeps customers in a way that traditional retail and eCommerce models don’t.

For the consumer, the subscription aspect of a brand in the rental space is a welcomed feature. Whereas, in traditional eCommerce, it may feel like, “Do I really need 5 new pairs of underwear every month?” By the time the monthly rental period comes to a close, the customer is ready to refresh their closet and try something new. The new subscription period is an exciting opportunity to experiment with new trends and refresh your wardrobe.

In a time where social media reigns, it is important to recognize the role it plays in our behaviors. Even more so, it’s contribution to what we buy. A new outfit for every post is the standard and many brands are feeling the weight of that. The “Nicks,” people who repeatedly buy and return items after wearing them, are creating a dilemma for in-store and online customer service reps. Reps increasingly face the struggle of wanting to create good customer experiences while also having to fight loss prevention guidelines and return policy abuse.

The rental model allows customers to wear a new outfit for every social post and enables retailers to limit the “Nick” behavior. Beyond that, the rental model creates an exciting opportunity to wear new, expensive clothes every month for a low cost. It’s a win-win, situation.

It’s really no secret that fast fashion’s moment is coming to an end. The bankruptcy of Forever 21, Topshop US, Charlotte Russe, and several other retailers have given rise to this new era, Generation Rent. Consumers are moving toward brands that listen, have a voice, move with their customers, and are conscious.

The brands that are making this rental pivot are clearly doing well. Apart from joining the rental bandwagon, these brands are succeeding in eCommerce and brick-and-mortar without it. This is a big deal. These brands are making the move and they don’t have to.

Louis Vuitton X is a rich and engaging experience and an exhilarating exploration of Louis Vuitton’s ongoing dialogue between the past and the future, heritage and modernity, savoir-faire and innovation. The “Lights, Camera, Action! Louis Vuitton on the Red Carpet” features 31 Nicolas Ghesquière-designed contemporary looks worn by the brand’s celebrity fans and ambassadors. From Alicia Vikander’s silk evening gown with embroidered sequins she wore to the 22nd SAG Awards, to Sophie Turner’s embroidered silk and sequin Centre Pompidou-inspired-design from this year’s Met Gala, this portion of the exhibit will leave you in awe.

The exhibition also marks the world premiere of the ArtyCapucines Collection for which six contemporary artists re-imagined the brand’s classic Capucines bag. Artists Sam Falls, Urs Fischer, Nicholas Hlobo, Alex Israel, Tschabalala Self and Jonas Wood brought their own unique takes to the limited-edition collection.

Israel designed a handbag decorated with a bright wave that includes quirky details such as a hidden comb and mirror; Woods utilized digital printing and 3-D embroidery for his piece; Fischer created a playful, handcrafted fruit and vegetable design with a detachable silicone banana (or other fruits and vegetables depending on one’s preference); Hlomo’s creation features a hand-laced and stitched leather pattern; Self embraced embroidered leather patchwork for her bag; and Fall’s includes a delicate mother-of-pearl design. Only 300 bags of each design exist. Six samples will remain on display at the exhibition after the bags are sold out.

The exhibition also includes a pop-up shop on the top level of the venue. The featured products were curated by Sarah Andelman, the former creative director of Colette. The pop-up includes women’s ready-to-wear, leather goods, accessories, shoes, fragrances, items from the brand’s Objets Nomades collection and travel books.

A few items are exclusive to the temporary boutique. They include a hot-stamp Beverly Hills luggage tag and card cases, an Israel-designed silk wave scarf and a special-edition hardcover book about the ArtyCapucines Collection.

Make sure to bring along your phones, as Louis Vuitton X has created an interactive social media experience. As guests walk through the 10 rooms and two floors, they can scan a bar code to unlock X-ray and technicolor filters that are exclusive and unique to the space. Snapchat also worked with Louis Vuitton to create a 3-D filter for the exhibition.

From enchanted midsummer’s night garden celebrations to lush outdoor venues, our bespoke event services can be enhanced with live musical entertainment, acrobatic performances, choreographed dancers and themed production. Looking for more outdoor entertainment ideas? So where do we draw our inspiration for enchanted garden and garden party themes and characters? Often times, our clients already have a something specific mind, a color theme, or perhaps the vision for the garden-themed décor, and our talented team gets to work on ideas for how ACE can accentuate and further bring this vision to life. Other times, we get inspired by fashion trends, films or specific materials we’ve been excited to work with.

For Beverly Hills’ Summer Garden Party, our costuming team channeled the location, the beautiful Beverly Canon Gardens featuring lush green landscaping dotted with neo-classic fountains and The Montage Hotel. The garden setting eluded Roman-esque vibes while The Montage Hotel’s earthy tones and terracotta roof brought to mind this summer’s runways trends as exemplified by Valentino and Versace. And so, our Italian garden dream began to take shape. Dusty rose and burnt red tones; textured lace; and embellished flowers blooming in the fields between Parma and Palermo.

Of course our floral ballerinas are more than just interactive backdrops. As strolling characters, they add a dash of whimsy and entertainment – a showpiece that facilitates conversations and interaction among guest. They’re also talented acrobats, dancers and aerialists. And so all of our custom made costumes and garments must also allow our artists to do what they do best – perform and entertain.  For our garden-themed characters this meant a functional airbrushed body suit which allowed them ease of movement and flexibility during their aerial performance.

We’d like to thank the Beverly Hills Chamber – organizers of the beautiful event – and everyone who took a moment to pose and snap a photo with our beautiful floral ballerinas. This was the fourth year that ACE took part in the Summer Garden Party, and we look forward to working with the chamber and its members for many years to come.
