A monthly update from the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce

A number of new developments have unfolded in the past few days. We are working with a number of partners to support our business community during this time.

Opposition to Suspension of Outdoor Dining Grows

The Chamber, along with various business groups throughout the region and state, are very concerned about the County of Los Angeles’ recent order suspending outdoor dining. Many local restaurants are in dire financial condition and the County has not provided sufficient data establishing that outdoor dining is a significant contributing cause to the surge in recent COVID-19. At the same time, these restaurants and other businesses do not have the same access to stimulus money that was distributed earlier this year.

Yesterday, the Beverly Hills City Council unanimously approved a resolution opposing the Los Angeles County Public Health Officer order that prohibits outdoor dining across the County and in the City of Beverly Hills. The Chamber will be working with the City and other community and business groups to roll back the County’s order and to help support our businesses during this difficult time.

We encourage our community members to write in to the LA County Board of Supervisors using the information via this link and demand that outdoor dining be permitted.

L.A. County Dining Grant Program for Restaurants Announced

The Keep L.A. County Dining Grant will provide $30,000 for restaurants to use as working capital for employee payroll expenses, capital to continue operations, payment of outstanding business expenses, and adaptive business practices needed to remain open. Preference will be given to restaurants that provided outdoor dining as of November 24, 2020. Applications will open on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at 12:00 AM.

Support Local Restaurants During this Difficult Time

Given the suspension of outdoor dining in our area, it is vitally important for our community to support our restaurants. Please order takeout and delivery from restaurants and encourage your friends and family to do the same! The Chamber has a running list of restaurant takeout and delivery options linked here.

Additionally, the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce with the support of the City of Beverly Hills is conducting a Shop Local, Get Local initiative now through December 26. Each week, shoppers have an opportunity to win raffle prizes valued at $50 – $75 from Beverly Hills businesses if they spend $200 at any Beverly Hills business. Customers must save their receipts and send them to to be entered into the raffle. This includes purchases at Beverly Hills restaurants and retailers. Additional information and official rules can be found here.

California Launches New Small Business Relief Efforts

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the creation of a $500 million COVID Relief Grant administered by the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) at the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development for small businesses that have been impacted by COVID and the health and safety restrictions. Updates as the program gets up and running will be provided here.

Governor Newsom also announced the opening of the California Rebuilding Fund which makes available $25 million to help impacted small businesses rebuild from the economic crisis and keep local economies strong.
