Over the course of three days, the delegation engaged with more than 25 businesses representing a range of industries including hospitality, restaurant concepts, retail, arts, and culture. The mission provided an opportunity to meet directly with founders, operators, and executives to discuss expansion strategies, evolving consumer expectations, and the unique environment Beverly Hills offers to businesses seeking an internationally recognized location. These conversations are part of the Chamber’s ongoing strategy to cultivate relationships with companies that align with the city’s distinctive ecosystem of luxury retail, fine dining, arts, and experiential destinations.

One highlight of the trip was a visit to Caracas Bakery, where Venezuelan-inspired sourdough breads and pastries reflect a strong commitment to cultural authenticity and craftsmanship. The family-owned concept stood out as an example of the kind of distinctive and experience-driven businesses that resonate with the curated environment of Beverly Hills. Another memorable visit took place at Marky’s Caviar, where the delegation learned about the company’s luxury caviar offerings and its commitment to sustainability through its Sturgeon Aquafarms in Bascom, Florida. Marky’s produces the only purebred Beluga caviar in the United States, demonstrating how heritage craftsmanship and responsible stewardship can coexist within the luxury food sector.

The delegation also explored several of Miami’s most influential hospitality and cultural destinations, gaining insight into how experiential environments shape tourism and civic identity. These included the acclaimed dining destinations MILA, LPM Restaurant & Bar, and Shingo, each known for blending culinary excellence with immersive design and atmosphere. Beyond hospitality, the group visited the celebrated cultural venues Faena Theater and Wynwood Walls, as well as the internationally recognized design showcase Design Miami. Together, these locations illustrate how art, architecture, culinary innovation, and hospitality can work together to create dynamic cultural districts that attract global visitors and investors.

For Beverly Hills, already home to world-class restaurants, luxury retail, arts institutions, and internationally recognized landmarks, these visits offered valuable perspective on how other leading cities cultivate vibrant business ecosystems while maintaining a distinctive identity. Guests were honored to hear from Dr. Arun Sharma, PhD, a leading stem cell biologist specializing in cardiovascular biology and space biosciences. Dr. Sharma is an associate professor at Cedars-Sinai and is affiliated with the Board of Governors Regenerative Medicine Institute, the Smidt Heart Institute, the Cancer Institute, and the Department of Biomedical Sciences. He also serves as Director of the Center for Space Medicine Research and Director of the CIRM Shared Resources Laboratory. His presentation offered an inspiring look at how cutting-edge biomedical research is advancing human health, both on Earth and beyond.

The evening included a powerful Inspirational Moment from Rotary member Tara Riceberg, who shared reflections following a tragic fire on Christmas Day that claimed her business and impacted neighboring families. Her remarks underscored the importance of compassion, perseverance, and community support in times of adversity.

Service remained at the forefront as the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills awarded grants to two impactful local organizations, Verbum Dei Jesuit High School and CASA of Los Angeles

The Chamber was proud to participate in the program with Todd Johnson, President & CEO of the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce, who joined Rotary as a featured speaker. Todd shared insights on Beverly Hills’ evolving business landscape and emphasized the value of collaboration between civic institutions, service organizations, and the local business community.

As the author of landmark statewide policies, Senator Allen offered clarity on how upcoming initiatives could shape the economic and regulatory landscape for Beverly Hills businesses in 2026 and beyond.

November – A Vision for Beverly Hills with Mayor Sharona Nazarian

In November, the Council welcomed Mayor Sharona R. Nazarian, PsyD, the first Iranian American woman to serve as Mayor of Beverly Hills. Mayor Nazarian outlined her achievements and signature initiatives, including BHPD Live Link, BH Fire Watch, Spotlight with Sharona, Sharona’s Innovation Circle, and expanded business engagement programs. Her address underscored a year defined by public safety, innovation, intergenerational unity, and community partnership.

October – The Future of Healthcare with Cedars-Sinai CEO Dr. Peter Slavin

October brought an extraordinary presentation from Dr. Peter Slavin, CEO of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and former President of Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Slavin offered high-level insight into innovation in clinical care, research leadership, workforce development, and the evolving demands of premier healthcare systems. His perspective highlighted Cedars-Sinai’s vital role in driving global excellence from right here in Beverly Hills.

September – Preparing for the 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games

Representatives from LA28—Vic Nol and Rachel Chiu—briefed the Council on infrastructure, venue planning, transportation, hospitality readiness, and the economic opportunities ahead as Los Angeles prepares to host the world in 2028. Members gained clarity on how the Olympics will impact both regional strategy and local business activity.

August – Inside the BHPD K9 Unit

August’s program spotlighted Beverly Hills’ dedicated K9 Unit. Members learned about specialized training, tactical operations, and the mission of the BHPD K9 Foundation, which supports the long-term care and retirement needs of these service dogs. A live demonstration offered an unforgettable look at the partnership between officers and their canine counterparts.

June – Behind the Rose Parade® with CEO David Eads

CEO of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses, David Eads, brought members inside the production of two of America’s most iconic events: the Rose Parade® and the Rose Bowl Game®. Eads shared operational insights, community impact, and the immense coordination that goes into hosting millions of viewers annually.

May – Public Safety Innovations with Chief Mark Stainbrook

Police Chief Mark Stainbrook briefed members on emerging law enforcement technologies—including the city’s growing drone program—and how Beverly Hills continues to set national standards in public safety. His remarks, rooted in decades of domestic and international experience, provided clarity and confidence in the city’s forward-facing safety strategy.

April – A Taste of Luxury at the B/S/H Showroom

The year opened with an immersive experience at the B/S/H Showroom on North Canon Drive, home to Bosch, Thermador, and Gaggenau. Members explored world-class craftsmanship and design innovation alongside a beautifully catered lunch from Bottega Louie, complete with Italian coffee and affogatos.

Above and beyond the monthly networking events, the Economic Development team advanced several strategic initiatives that strengthened Beverly Hills’ business ecosystem. Working alongside the City of Beverly Hills, the Chamber continued its annual New York City Mission, engaging luxury retailers and international brands interested in expanding into the Beverly Hills market. The team also partnered with City leadership on Mayoral Business Retention Meetings to connect with established businesses, gather insights, and provide tailored support. In addition, the Broker’s Roundtable brought together commercial brokers for quarterly conversations that offered real-time market updates and enhanced coordination with City departments. Together, these initiatives deepened relationships, supported growth, and reinforced Beverly Hills as a thriving global destination for business, culture, and innovation.

Notably, multiple businesses expressed that Beverly Hills remains unmatched in brand prestige, audience engagement, and long-term growth potential, making it a top choice for flagship enhancements and future expansion.

Meetings with renowned operators including Gabriel Kreuther, Jeju Noodle Bar, Fish Cheeks, Chatti, and Marky’s positioned Beverly Hills as the natural West Coast home for rising dining concepts seeking a discerning audience and high-impact exposure. Emerging trends such as cross-cultural fusion cuisines, including Thai, Caribbean, French, and more, were identified as compelling additions that align strongly with local demand and international visitor expectations. Additionally, several operators showed interest in activating through pop-ups before permanent leasing, offering an agile path to market and added vibrancy for our community.

Strengthening ongoing relationships with beloved Beverly Hills establishments such as Dante and Saks Fifth Avenue also ensured that business retention continues to be as proactive and prioritized as recruitment. Partners shared appreciation for the City’s exceptional public safety network, including fire, police, and community services, and the personalized engagement demonstrated by in-person visits from Beverly Hills leadership. Many expressed excitement about upcoming development milestones and the support available to align their brand activations with major city events and initiatives.

Our messaging resonated strongly as we showcased Beverly Hills’ unparalleled competitive advantages, including its global brand recognition, highly engaged resident and visitor base, responsive business environment, and major infrastructure investments including the Purple (D Line) Subway Extension and One Beverly Hills. These major projects bolster our economic momentum and expedite development opportunities that enable renewed energy flow and strategies. An unexpected expense arises that puts us behind on our rent, a family member becomes ill, and setbacks abound that seem almost hostile in nature. It’s hard enough to organize our thoughts as it is, but even harder to find the energy to solve our problems.

Sometimes, it seems like we just can’t get a break. But the problem really arises when challenges such as this mount. When that happens, we become overwhelmed and are most at risk of quitting on our dreams and goals or even life.

Everyone feels like quitting at some point, gets under the blanket and completely ignores everyone and everything. It happens to the best of us, but know that this “escape” is temporary, this year of 2020 is almost done! You should allow yourself a break every now and then; you need to recharge in order to start fresh, but never allow that break to last for too long and turn you into a quitter. We are all planning on 2021 being a better year.

Quitting won’t make the challenges go away. The only way to truly handle our challenges is by facing them head on – and that requires a powerful, pure-burning motivation to take action despite these setbacks. But where do we get the necessary motivation from?

Many of you know I am passionate about my dogs. I found that if dogs could teach us……… We would learn such things as

1. A warm and loving greeting when loved ones return home.

2. Enjoy a fresh breeze and the wind blowing in your hair.

3. Take naps and stretch before rising.

4. Run, romp and play daily.

5. Avoid biting when a growl will do.

6. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

7. Be loyal.

8. Never pretend to be something you are not.

9. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

10. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close to them, and nuzzle them gently.

I hope this brings some peace and a smile to your face. We are resilient as the human race and no matter your belief, there is a higher calling and they do have control over each of us if we allow and listen.

Serving overseas in other countries and experiencing humanity, bravery, and disparity up close. Many people around the world live in very humble and challenging conditions and we often forget that.

Joining the military involves many sacrifices. What motivated you to embark on this journey?

I come from a military family and wanted to follow the tradition. Serving others is in my blood. I wanted to earn the right to be part of the Marine Corps values of honor, courage and commitment.

What was the biggest takeaway from this experience?

I have many takeaways however I learned two things; Discipline and Commitment. With discipline and commitment, anything is possible.

Is there anything that you hope for our country’s future?

I hope our children can serve humanity better than we have.
